Classic Maine Covers For Birds

Fall is the tiime to hit the woods in search of the king of upland birds- the ruffed grouse. Woodcock migrations are also excellent in Maine where we still have the habitat that these birds need.

Many of our management practices here at Silverton are meant to continually provide desirable cover for upland birds. Recent woodlot management practices have opened new areas for young forest growth that these birds look for.

Upland Hunting Preserve

Pheasant Hunt 7 Days A Week

Our upland hunting preserve is an opportunity to train young dogs, freshen older dogs before the grouse season, introduce new folks to hunting and put your dogs on pheasant for a great hunt.

Bird work starts in June with quail and chukar for dog training. Pheasant hunts start in August and go until we are out of birds or the snow gets too deep. We have guides with dogs available or hunt with your own dog.

We offer hunts based on number of birds requested. The usual recommendation is 3-4 birds per hunter. An estimate of time required is 6 pheasants = a 2 hour hunt.

If you have never hunted before but have always wanted to try please don't hestitate to call. This is one of my favorite things to do. We start with an introduction to gun safety, then actual clay target shooting on our 5 stand. When that is going well and everyone is comfortable we move out to the field to find pheasants. When we are done we also will show you how to care for your birds or can clean them for you.
